Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most.
What is The Equine Manager?
A pedigree, breeding, and farm-management app for horse breeders - track genetics, health, and breeding records for any horse, and search a large historical registry database while you're at it.
Do I need an account to look up a horse?
No - the Horses page is open to everyone, no login required. You only need an account to add or edit horses, manage breeding records, or use the breeder tools (Calendar, Foal Flow, Day Book, Buyers).
How much does it cost?
Plans start at $50/year, and every new account gets a free 14-day trial - no credit card required to look around.
What breeds and registries does it support?
Any breed - when you register a horse you can pick from dozens of North American breed registries (AQHA, APHA, Jockey Club, Arabian, Morgan, Standardbred, and many more), or mark it Other. Appaloosa-related registries get special treatment: The Equine Manager includes the largest searchable historical Appaloosa pedigree database anywhere, spanning ApHC Foundation, Tentative, PC, ID, and Regular Registered horses, plus Colorado Rangerbred, Sundance Bloodline, and FAHR.
What's Foundation %/FAHR %?
A measure of how much of a horse's pedigree traces back to foundation-era Appaloosa bloodlines, without Thoroughbred or Quarter Horse influence. It's computed automatically from a horse's sire and dam where possible, or set manually for registrations (like ID, NC, PC, or BT) that don't carry enough pedigree data to calculate it.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes - the whole app is mobile-first, with a dark mode too.
Is my data backed up?
Yes, automatically. Admins can also export or restore the database from Backup at any time.
Can I transfer a horse to another breeder?
Yes - ownership transfers move a horse, and its full history, to another breeder's account without losing any records.
How do text reminders work?
Opt in from your Account page to get free text reminders for upcoming due dates on horses you currently own, sent through your phone carrier's email-to-SMS gateway. It's US-carrier-only for now, and delivery isn't guaranteed the way a paid SMS service is - some carriers may count it against your messaging plan.
What's the Appaloosa mailing list?
An optional, occasional (about once a week) email update on Appaloosa news - all horses, or Foundation-bred only, whichever you prefer. Change it anytime from your Account page.
How do I get help, or cancel my account?
Contact the admin who set up your farm's account - your Account page shows your Account Code, which is handy to have ready when you reach out.
Where do I see what's changed recently?
The What's New page lists every feature, improvement, and fix as it ships.
