Notes
Dam (per source): Buck According to the CRHA booklet, Silver Leopard was purchased in 1943 by the US Department of the Interior through the Office of Indian Affairs for Remount use in South Dakota. Research by Pat Mefferd: On November 1943 the U.S. Department of Interior, thru the office of Indian Affairs, purchased SILVER LEOPARD as a rehabilitation stallion for the Pine Ridge Indian Agency in South Dakota. He replaced the Claude J. Thompson stallion Painter III, who was returned to Oregon. It should be noted that SILVER LEOPARD was never a US Remount Stallion (as some have reported), nor was he ever owned by the US Remount Service. He was at Pine Ridge to upgrade native stock for the Pine Ridge Agency, for their own use and to sell if they so desired. The resulting stock was not meant for possible US Remount horses, which was the main purpose of the US Remount Service, whether horses were bred at Government facilities or bred by Civilian Remount Agents, appointed by the US Remount Service. Sired fourteen known named foals, nine CRHA (including one recorded unregistered CRHA); five registered ApHC (including one ApHC ID mare). These foals were born between 1936 and 1949. Quite possibly there were others who did not get registered. Article about Silver Leopard [very interesting] Entry updated February 2018 Source: appaloosaterritory.com CRHA registry, crha1.html
